How hiring household staff works.

Good household staff recruitment follows the same course whatever the role. Here is each stage in turn, and what we will ask of you along the way.

Process

It begins with a consultation. We learn the household, the principal’s preferences and the role itself: its duties, its hours and who it answers to.

We settle the shape of the post with you: permanent, temporary or rota, live-in or live-out, one home or several. Then we search and vet in person against that brief.

Within 7 to 14 days you receive a small, considered shortlist. Senior and specialist searches can take a little longer, and we will tell you so at the outset.

Contracts

There are two agreements, and they are separate. The first is between you and us: our terms of business, agreed in writing before the search begins, which include the placement assurance.

The second is the contract of employment. In a permanent placement it is made between your household and the person you hire. We handle the logistics of offer, contract and onboarding, so that both sides begin on clear terms.

Confidentiality runs through both. We will sign your confidentiality agreement or supply a mutual one, as set out in our Discretion policy.

Trial

You meet your preferred candidates, then invite the strongest to a paid trial in your home.

A trial shows what an interview cannot: how someone works within your routines, alongside the people already in the house, to the standard you expect.

We arrange it and handle the logistics. Afterwards we ask both sides for an honest account before any offer is made.

Aftercare

A placement is not finished on the first day. We check in at 30, 90 and 180 days to make sure it is settling as it should.

Should a permanent placement not work out within two years, we search again at no further placement fee, subject to our terms. See Placement assurance and Fees and terms in brief.

Every placement also carries access to the Training Academy, for new staff and for the team around them.

Placement assurance

We stay close, long after they arrive.

We check in at 30, 90 and 180 days to make sure the placement is settling as it should. And should a permanent placement not work out within two years, we will search again at no further placement fee.

  • Structured 30, 90 and 180-day check-ins
  • Two-year placement assurance
  • Ongoing access to the Training Academy

Fees and terms in brief.

You should know how we charge before you ask. The figures belong to a conversation, because they depend on the role. The structure does not change.

Retained search
Our searches are retained. You instruct us, we agree the brief and our terms of business in writing, and a senior consultant leads the search personally. We do not send speculative CVs.
Fee on placement
Our fee is a placement fee, paid by the family or principal and set out in writing before the search begins. It falls due when a placement is made. Candidates are never charged.
Two-year assurance
The placement assurance described above is part of those terms.

For families, answered.

For most roles you will have a considered shortlist within 7 to 14 days. Senior and specialist searches can take a little longer; we will always tell you honestly at the outset.

If a permanent placement does not work out within the first two years, we will conduct a replacement search at no further placement fee, subject to our terms. We would rather get it right than simply fill a vacancy.

Entirely. We work with the discretion of a private office. Your household, your name and your requirements are never shared without your express permission.

Yes. Alongside permanent placements we provide temporary, maternity-cover and rota staff, often at short notice, drawn from the same vetted pool.

Yes, and we often recommend it. Our Training Academy can raise an existing member of staff to a fully British standard, frequently a better outcome than starting a new search.
